Vipers Win 5th In A Row

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C.  JANUARY 11th, 2017

The Vernon Vipers used special teams to their advantage to come away with an important 5-3 win on the road game against the Prince George Spruce Kings. The Vipers went 2 for 5 with the PP and 3 for 3 on the PK which proved to be the difference.

The Vipers had a minor case of bus legs in the first few minutes of the game and the Spruce Kings took advantage as Hunter Luhmann rifled home a hard wrist shot. The Vipers responded well in the next few shifts and turned the momentum in their favour. They put a lot of pucks Tavin Grants way, but it was a late powerplay goal from Chris Jandric that drew the team even after 1 period.

The Vipers would use another man advantage to take the lead as Cameron Trott found some open space in the slot and ripped home his 5th of the season to make it 2-1. That lead was short lived as Luhmann scored his second of the game after some nice board work from Parker Colley. Some nice neutral zone play allowed Adamson to find Stapley down the right wing with a good shot inside the post to give the Vipers a late 3-2 lead.

Jimmy Lambert and his speed gave the Vipers a 4-2 lead as he came barreling down the right wing and cut in with a backhander. Again the Spruce Kings refused to roll over as they came on strong. They really got some life on a bit of a flukey goal as Chong Lee centered a pass that deflected in off Hanson to make it 4-3. Hanson was forced to make a few big saves and that was crucial as Jimmy Lambert would seal the game into the empty net.

The Vipers return home for the first time in 2017 on Friday night against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
