Capitals Dump Vipers 5-2 (11-4-16)

COWICHAN VALLEY, B.C.  NOVEMBER 4, 2016

The Vipers penalty kill struggled for the first time all season as they were victimized three times and the Cowichan Capitals would rally for five unanswered goals to take the game by a 5-2 margin.
It was a good hardworking first period that would see the Vipers test Lane Michasiw a handful of times. They would finally get one past him as Niko Karamanis would a deflect a point shot over the shoulder of Michasiw to make it 1-0 after 1.

The Vipers pushed the pace in the second period and increased their lead thanks to Chris Jandric’s first BCHL goal as he joined the rush and with pin point accuracy, went far post and in. Two minutes later, Ben Verrall jammed home his 2nd of the season on the powerplay to make it 2-1 Vipers after 2 periods.

The Capitals got some momentum in the third period thanks to a powerplay, as Max Newton slung a shot over the shoulder of Ty Taylor to even the score 2-2. Ayden MacDonald gave the Caps their first lead of the game as he popped home a rebound off a point shot to make it 3-2 for the homeside. Nii Noi Tettah scored another powerplay goal for Cowichan to make it 4-2. Ty Pochipinski would cap the scoring at 5-2 as he walked out from behind the net and fired it in.

The Vernon Vipers look to rebound after a tough 5-2 loss in Cowichan Valley last night. The Vipers allowed 5 unanswered goals in defeat, but the task will be tough as they take on the second ranked team in the Island Division, the Victoria Grizzlies.
The Vipers continue their up and down play as they’ve alternated wins and losses for the last 6 games.
The Victoria Grizzlies on the other hand have been riding a wave of solid play. They come in 1 point behind Powell River for top spot in the division, with 2 games in hand. They’re 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 and are coming off a 4-0 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The Grizz have won 4 straight at the Q Centre and will look to remain red hot at home.

Here’s the tale of the tape:
