GAME 3 Vernon Visits Trail

The Vernon Vipers prepare to go behind enemy lines for Game 3 and 4 starting tonight at the Cominco Arena. The Vipers know the series is far from over and will get the best of the Smoke Eaters. The Snakes have a 2-0 series lead thanks to a 2-0 and 5-2 win in games 1 and 2 at Kal Tire Place.

Not a big surprise for the Vipers that the scoring has been spread around in the first two games of the series. Depth was a big key to this hockey teams success in the regular season and that’s rolled into the post season. Eleven different Vipers have points in two games. Steven Jandric leads the way with 2 goals and 1 assist. Defensively, the team has been solid allowing just 25 shots per game on average. In game 2 specifically, there were several instances where the Smokies would get looks, only to have it get blocked on its way to the net.

The Smokies will look to return the favour to the Vipers in front of their home crowd. The Smokies have yet to lose at home in the playoffs after taking all 3 games against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Home ice was extremely crucial to the Smokies in the regular season with 16 wins and 130 goals for. They were the highest scoring Interior Division team at home.

The saying goes “its not a series until a team wins on the road”. The Vipers will have a big test in front of them and know they have to be at their best.
