Two Vipers Taken in NHL Entry Draft

Vernon, BC: It was a fantastic weekend for two Vernon Vipers as Brett Stapley and Ty Taylor were selected in the NHL Entry Draft.

Brett Stapley was taken in the 7th round, 190 overall by the Montreal Canadiens.  The 3rd year Viper and Denver University commit, had a stellar campaign with the Vipers, finishing second on the team in scoring with 27 goals and 32 assists.

Stapley also made a big impact for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge winning a gold medal in Truro.   The Campbell River product, tallied 2 goals and an assist in the tournament.

Ty Taylor would celebrate much the same as his teammate as his name was called a bit later in the 7th round, being selected 214th overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The accolades continued to mount for the Richmond native, capping off a fantastic season where he was awarded the BCHL Goalie of the Year, where he tied the league record for shutouts with 7 and secured a scholarship to the University of New Hampshire.

Both players will soon be attending their respective clubs development camps.

Congratulations to both young men on their accomplishments.
