Vees Down Vipers 3-1 (11-12-16)

VERNON, B.C.  NOVEMBER 12, 2016

Over 2600 fans turned out in support of the ‘First Responders Night’ but it was the walking wounded Vipers who needed some emergency support in a 3-1 loss to the Penticton Vees. The Vipers were missing vets, Riley Brandt (suspension), Jimmy Lambert along with Jesse Lansdell and Chris Jandric (injuries). The infirmary would get another one as Jagger Williamson didn’t return for the 3rd period as well.

Vipers got out to a quick start as Carter Stephenson found the back of the net, his 5th of the season on the power play. But before the opening period came to a close, Penticton’s Grant Cruikshank found the back of the net with about a minute left in the period to tie it at 1-all. Penticton had the edge in shots with 12 to Vernon’s 11.

In the second period, Penticton took advantage of a couple of good bounces as pucks were tipped or deflected to wide open players. Ty Amonte and Taylor Ward would each add singles to put the Vees up 3-1. Both teams managed 10 shots in the second period.

No scoring in the 3rd. In fact even shots on goal were not happening as each team clamped down with both teams recording only 5 shots each. Vees getting the edge with a game total of 27 while the Vipers recorded 26 shots. Vernon’s Ty Taylor had a strong game despite giving up three goals while Mathew Robson let in the lone goal for the win.

The Vipers only have a few days to get ready for the Langley Rivermen who visit Kal Tire Place this coming Wednesday, November 16th.
