Vernon Loses 3-1 To Penticton

PENTICTON, B.C.  DECEMBER 7th, 2016

The Vernon Vipers found themselves behind the eight ball early and despite a solid effort couldn’t could out of a first period deficit. The teams would trade goals in the middle frame and Penticton shut it down in the third period as the Vipers saw their three game winning streak come to an end in a 3-1 final.

A delay of game penalty would handcuff the Vipers off the opening faceoff and despite killing it off, the Vees converted one second later off the stick of Ryley Risling. The Vees used another powerplay to increase their lead as Grant Cruikshank rifled home a shot from the circle to make it 2-0. The Vipers powerplay had a good chance to get within one, but a shot from Trott got through the wickets of Robson, but just missed the outside post and it was 2-0 after 1.

It was a fairly uneventful middle stanza with the exception being a 39 second sequence where the Vees scored to make it 3-0 on a Matt Gosiewski 2 on 1 rush and a response from Brett Stapley just moments later. The Vipers came close a few times to getting the game within one, but a goal post and a couple of big saves from Robson kept it 3-1.

The Vipers had some push in the third, but had trouble using their speed to get through a congested neutral zone. When they did, passes were just off target, shots missed the net, were blocked or stopped by the goaltender. In the end with the goalie pulled they were unable to add to the offense and fell 3-1 the final.
The Vipers are back in action Friday night in Salmon Arm to take on the Silverbacks. You can catch all the action on 107.5 KissFM starting at 6:45
