The Vernon Vipers have added some leadership to their roster. Vernon has acquired 19 year old Sam Anzai from the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for Future Considerations.
The 5’11 190 pound forward was the captain of the Thunder and 4 goals and 13 points in 22 games this season.
He is expected to make his Viper debut on Wednesday when the team visits Wenatchee to take on the Wild.
Vernon had an open roster spot following the trade of Finn Evans in late October.
The Vipers would also like to congratulate Brett Stapley, Jack Judson and Ty Taylor on their invite to the selection camp for Team Canada West for the World Junior A Challenge.
A group of 60 invitees will assemble in Calgary Dec. 2-5 for four days of practices and games as part of the Team Canada West selection camp at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park. The players were selected from the CJHL’s five western Junior A leagues: the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), and Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL)
Team Canada West will open the tournament in Truro Nova Scotia December 10 versus the Czech Republic.
