Vipers Drop 5-4 Decision To Merritt

VERNON, B.C.  JANUARY 18th, 2017

The Vernon Vipers suffered their first regular season loss at home since mid november, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Merritt Centennials. The Vipers came out with a strong start and took an early 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals from Steve Jandric and Austin Adamson. However the Cents would get one back with 6 minutes left in the period when Chase Bell recorded his first goal of the game.

In the second period, Hunter Zandee would give the Vipers a 3-1 lead with his 4th of the season but again the Centennials would crawl back into it with a goal at the 14 minute mark of the middle frame to make it 3-2.

Then in the 3rd period, Cade Gleekel would score just over two minutes into the period to tie the game at 3. Vernon forward Hunter Zandee would score his second of the game to give the Vipers back their lead but it wouldn’t be enough as the Centennials would score two more unanswered goals including Bell’s  second of the night to earn 1st star honours. Despite the loss Hunter Zandee was name the games second star for his two goal performance.

The Vernon Vipers hit the road this Friday, January 20th to take on the West Kelowna Warriors and then are back home to host the Powell River Kings on Saturday, January 21st.
