Vipers Grab Another Point

VERNON, B.C.  January 14th, 2017

For the second consecutive night the Vernon Vipers had to work overtime but this time it was the Merritt Centennials pulling out a 2-1 win in double OT. Also for the second straight night the Vipers didn’t get the start they wanted and found themselves getting out-shot in the first half of the opening period. And despite Merritt outgunning Vernon 16-6, neither team would find the back of the net in the first.

It wouldn’t be until late in the second period that Niko Karamanis would open the scoring for the Vipers potting a loose puck in front of the net to give Vernon a 1-0 lead. That lead would last only one minute…as Cade Geekle would score to tie the game up with 3 minutes to play in the middle frame.

No scoring in the 3rd period, each team had chances to score the game winner but both Ty Taylor and Jacob Berger were very good in net.

The game winner wouldn’t come until late into double OT. Tyler Ward was the recipient of a perfectly placed breakaway pass and he was able to snap it home to give the Cents the 2-1 double overtime victory.
