VERNON,B.C. JANUARY 13th, 2017
The Vernon Vipers and Salmon Arm Silverbacks square off again! This is the 7th and final meeting of the season and 5th in as many weeks, but it’s a rivalry that continues to intrigue. The most recent engagement between these two clubs was a 1-0 thriller. The Vipers have come out on the right end of 5 of the 6 meetings to date and have taken at least a point in all head to head matchups. Those games have been tight affairs with the exception of one.
The Vipers continue to play good hockey despite being undermanned. The Snakes capped off a perfect 3 game road trip with a 5-3 win in Prince George. It was far from a masterpiece, but the result allowed the Vipers to remain unbeaten in 9 games and perfect in 2017.
The Silverbacks kicked off 2017 with a home and home set with the Trail Smoke Eaters. The Backs split the set with both teams winning on the road. Salmon Arm had a busy trade deadline dealing away some veterans in return for youth and future considerations. The Backs will now look to a homegrown talent to lead the group the rest of the way as Carson Bolduc was given the captaincy.
