Vipers Lose Cakebread & More

VERNON, B.C.  JANUARY 4th, 2017

The New Year has posed some challenges for the Vernon Vipers who will be missing a few players in the second half of the season. The team will be saying goodbye to #14 Christian Cakebread who made the difficult decision to accept an NCAA scholarship to Niagara University in New York. The Purple Eagles have been struggling with injuries and opted to offer the 19-year-old Gilbert, Arizona forward a full ride to attend the school.

Cakebread put up 20 points in 35 games including 9 goals and 11 assists in his second year with the Vipers. The Vipers would like to thank Christian for all of his hard work and dedication to the Viper program and wish him all the best in his college career.

Meanwhile the Vipers will also be without captain #12 Riley Brandt for the next 4 to 6 weeks after he suffered a broken thumb during a game against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on December 29th. The team has also lost #17 Luke Gingras for an undetermined amount of time after he suffered a fractured finger the following night in Salmon Arm.

The Vipers also released #27 Nicholas Rasovic at the end of the season. The Vipers would like to wish him all the best in his hockey endeavours.

The team will look to make some final moves before the January 10th trade deadline. Listen to Head Coach Mark Ferner’s comments below.
