Vipers Meet Vees Tonight

The Vernon Vipers look to kick off 2017, the way they ended 2016, on a winning note. It won’t be easy as they make the trek south to Penticton to take on the Vees. This is the 5th of seven meetings between these division rivals with the Vees leading the season series 3 games to 1. The Vipers win in this series came at the SOEC.

The Vipers roll in having won 3 straight games and unbeaten in their last 8 games. The last time the Vipers suffered a loss was against the Vees in their last meeting. The Vipers have been pretty stingy on defense in the last 11 games. They’ve given up more than 3 goals just once while shutting out the opposition twice. Their offense has been solid as well scoring at least 3 goals in all but 2 of those 11 games. They’ll have to do it a little shorthanded down the stretch with the departure of Christian Cakebread and the injuries to Riley Brandt and Luke Gingras.

The Vees come into the matchup second place in the BCHL, but have lost 2 of their last 3. Their most recent game was Wednesday when they fell 3-2 to Trail at the SOEC. The Vees are 6-3-0-1 in their last 10 games and continue to ride the hot hand of Mathew Robson in goal. The veteran netminder has 24 of the teams 29 wins. Offensively, much like the

Vipers, its more of a scoring by committee, with all 4 lines capable of putting the puck in the net. Captain Nick Jones leads the team with 39 points while rookie Grant Cruikshank has 25 goals.

This is the first of three meetings this month between these two teams and should be a fantastic matchup.
