Vipers Stifle Cents 3-1 (10-29-16)

VERNON, B.C.  OCTOBER 29, 2016

The Vernon Vipers dominated for two out of three periods but still needed a big goal from Niko Karamanis to secure a 3-1 win over the travel weary Merritt Centennials.

The Snakes jumped all over the Centennials early on in the game, out shooting their opponents 16-4 in the first period however could not slip one past starting goalie Jacob Berger. In the second period it was more of the same, however this time the Vipers Keith Anderson would score his second of the game to give his team a 1-0 nothing lead. Two periods down and the Vipers had stifled the Centennials only allowing a total of 7 shots while firing 31 the other way.

In the third, Merritt would come out with more jump and had several good chances before the games 3rd star Niko Karamanis would steal the puck at his own blueline while trying to kill a penalty…and he would make good on scoring on the breakaway. It was his second shorthanded game winner this season.  Keith Anderson would finish the scoring…adding his second of the game with an empty net goal.

Viper Assistant Coach Kevin Kraus says the team game out with a good start.

The games 1st star Keith Anderson who has scored three goals in his last 4 games says he’s getting more used to his new digs.

Niko Karamanis who scored the short handed game winner says the team was blocking a ton of shots.

The Vernon Vipers grab sole possession of second place in the Interior Division…moving a single point ahead of 3rd place Merrit and 10 back of first place Penticton.
