Defenceman Ryan MacLean

Vernon, BC:  Defenceman Ryan MacLean has committed to the Vipers for 2019-20. He attributes his decision to the “highly professional-run Vipers spring camp” and to the “honesty and professionalism displayed by Coach McKee.”

Ryan, a 6 foot, 175 pound native of North Vancouver, has played the last two years at the West Van Academy prep school. During the 2018-19 season, he registered 5 goals and 21 assists in 34 games in the highly competitive CSSHL, which includes teams in Alberta and British Columbia.

Ryan describes himself as “a 200 foot player, playing hard at both ends of the ice.” He says he prides himself on “a good first pass out of the zone” and his communication on the ice. “I’m a talker,” he says, “which is something that Coach (Steve) Marr preaches. He also stresses that we need to be highly competitive; there are no battles that you can’t win if you really stick your nose in there.”

Ryan MacLean also has praise for conditioning guru Ryan Kerr, with whom he’s currently working in the gym, along with the Vipers’ Josh Latta.

Viper fans will be happy to know that Ryan relishes opportunities to be involved in the community. He has made a point of volunteering and being involved in community events and looks forward to meeting Viper fans and other members of the Vernon community.
