Salmon Arm, BC: The Vipers saw a lead disappear in the third, only to rally as Josh Latta tied the game with 80 seconds left, only to fall 4-3 in overtime in Salmon Arm.
The Vipers started the game with a strong sense of urgency and were rewarded for that early as Michael Young’s side wall bouncer found its way through traffic and through the legs of Ethan Langenegger. The Silverbacks tied the game up on a powerplay as Olson Werenka tipped home his 3rd of the year. The Vipers capitalized on a powerplay of their own as Michael Young walked into a slap shot from just outside the ringette line to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after 1.
In the second, lots of chances, not goals and the goaltenders shone. Porter stopped all 12 shots he faced, while Langenegger stopped 13. The best save of the period and perhaps the year, came from Porter who made a mid air paddle save off a Salmon Arm 2 on 1.
In the third, the Silverbacks rattled off two goals in 4 minutes as Jonathon Krahn and Hudson Schandor converted on odd man rushes to give the Silverbacks their first lead 3-2. Frustration looked like it was setting in for the Vipers, but as has been done before, the Vipers rallied late. While on a powerplay, Josh Latta was able to lift a puck over a sprawled out Langenegger to make it 3-3 and force overtime.
In the extra period, Aidan Porter stood tall making a number of big saves. The Backs won the game on a sequence that looked to be offside. Play continued and Olson Werenka finished off a rebound to give Salmon Arm the extra point.
