Vipers Down Rivermen 5-2 (11-16-16)

VERNON, B.C. NOVEMBER 16th, 2016

The Vernon Vipers won for the first time at home against the Langley Rivermen posting a 5-2 victory despite having a number of veterans out of the lineup. Despite missing the likes of Jagger Williamson, Riley Brandt and Jimmy Lambert the team still found their scoring touch and took advantage of a big opening period.

Jesse Lansdell, Austin Adamson, Michael Ufberg and Steve Jandric all found the back in the net in the second half of the opening period and chased starting Langley netminder Bo Didur from the crease following their 3rd goal. Meanwhile Vipers goalie Ty Taylor was strong between the pipes turning aside eight Rivermen shots.

The Langley Rivermen stepped up in the middle frame getting goals from  Andrew Dumaresque and  John Schuldt to cut the Viper’s lead to 4-2 heading into the 3rd period.

The final period didn’t see much scoring as the Vipers looked to shut down any momentum the Rivermen had going in the second period. Christian Cakebread would add an empty netter to finish the game off and give the Vipers another two points to improve their record to 11-2-2-0 and sole possession of 3rd place in the BCHL’s Interior Conference.

Assistant Coach Kevin Kraus says he was happy to see some guys get on the scoreboard…

The game’s second star Michael Ufberg says it was a team effort…

Jesse Lansdell who earned 1st star honours says it was a gritty win especially with having a number of vets out of the lineup….

The Vernon Vipers next game is this Sunday afternoon when they play host to the Cowichan Valley Capitals starting at 2pm at Kal Tire Place.
