Vipers Double Trail 2-1 (10-22-16)

TRAIL, B.C.  OCTOBER 22/2016

The Vernon Vipers came into Saturday nights game against the Trail Smoke Eaters looking for a little redemption. After falling at home ice to the Smokies, the Vipers looked to do the same at Cominco. After giving up an early goal, the Vipers were able to shut down the Trail offense and pepper Zach Dyment. Two second period goals later and the Vipers skated away with a 2-1 hard fought victory on the road.

Kale Howarth struck first for the home side as he carried in down the left wing and snapped a hard, well placed shot under the bar inside the first 3 minutes. The Vipers rallied in momentum and time of possession, but couldn’t beat Zach Dyment in the first 20 minutes and found themselves behind 1-0.

The Vipers continued their onslaught of shots at the Trail goal. A Viper powerplay resulted in a goal as Riley Brandt finished off a nice passing play to make it 1-1. Keith Anderson would make it 2-1 a few minutes later, deflecting a point shot from Michael Ufberg to give the Vipers a 2-1 lead.

The Smokies tried to push the pace in the third period, but the Vipers were able to shut down the offense and limit the number of shots and chances. Ty Taylor had to make a handful of good saves and helped his team come away with an important 2-1 win on the road.
The Vipers will head home for a date with the Penticton Vees on Friday night at KTP.
