Vipers Double Trail 6-3

The Vipers powerplay was on full display Friday night as the man advantage struck 6 times on 14 opportunities to propel the Vipers to a 6-3 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters. Josh Prokop notched his second hat trick of the season scoring his 13th, 14th and 15th goals in the victory.

The Vipers used their powerplay to get them started in the right direction right off the hop. The Vipers worked the puck around well on their first chance as Chris Jandric set up Brett Stapley who rifled a shot through bodies to make it 1-0 on his 17th goal of the year. The Vipers were awarded a 5 on 3 powerplay shortly after that and it was a different unit that converted as Jesse Lansdell set up Josh Prokop at the side of the net for his 13th of the year. The Vipers didn’t allow much to their goal keeping the Smokies to just 8 shots. Anthony Yamnitsky was solid, but it was his counterpart who really impressed stopping 16 of 18.

The second period was bombarded by trips to the penalty box as the Smoke Eaters were assessed 8 minor penalties. Before any of those call, however, Trail scored 2 goals in 20 seconds in the first minute to make it 2-2. Seth Barton and Tyler Ghirardosi evened the game up by the 41 second mark. The powerplays started to lean in the Vipers favour after that and Josh Prokop tipped in his second of the night and 14th of the year to make it 3-2. Trail tied it up again as Carter Jones scored his 7th of the year while the game was being played 4 on 4. The Vipers used a 5 on 3 to retake the lead as Chris Jandric tapped home his 3rd of the year to give the Snakes a 4-3 lead heading to the dressing room.

The Vipers started the third on another 5 on 3 powerplay and went to work right away as Prokop was set up for the hat trick goal making it 5-3 before Jimmy Lambert gunned in his 13th of the year to make it 6-3. From there the Vipers clogged things up and minimized many opportunities. Brandon Wells was fantastic in goal for Trail making big saves all night long. There would be no more scoring the rest of the way as the Vipers would hear the buzzer and skate off with a 6-3 win.
